Happy New Year:
Todd Tumaneng came by for a surprise visit on New Years day.
Todd is an old friend and has been training in Japan for the past year.
I want to thank Todd for all his insights and patience while showing us the
Sheriashi Sensei style of Taijutsu. We had a blast - Ate some pizza,
Drank some Big Belly Pirate Ale (thanks John), and threw around until
we we
got tired. All in all we had 13 people in the Basement (a new record) it was
tight, but we made it work. What a great way to kick off the New Year!
This years Bujinkan Theme is Daisho Jutaijutsu. In other words
Fighting with Two swords - Katana and Shoto.
In December we had the first and only workshop for the year --- It went over very well I
think. Chuck / Kim went over knife defenses, Chris/ Kenyon looked at
ground work - This is a great way to look deeper into the curriculum
and explore many variations and applications.
Year in review:
A lot happened last year - In my opinion it was all good.
Gained 4 new members (I think we are closing in on our physical limit),
Received audience with Mr. Ed Martin a very talented Bujinkan instructor and mentor. Went to some cool seminars and gathered some new insights.
And, everyone appears to be doing well inside and outside the dojo, advancing
their careers, nurturing their relationships, accomplishing their goals.
I believe this is a good balance, Training hard and living a mindful and fulfilling
life. I am proud to be part of this dynamic group of outstanding
individuals.
Thank you all for helping each other and myself have a great year.
2004 Goals:
Shori T-shirts
Getting our video collection on DVD.
Using our camera a bit more frequently.
More Shori Workshop training.
Summer Sword Training Seminar with Earthway
What's New?
The senior belts will be tasked to teach a lesson every class.
This is a great way for juniors to get a different perspective on this art
and an important learning tool for the instructor to break down their ideas
and look deeper into their own technique.
T-Shirts: Our Shori T-shirt connection
sort of just fizzled out.
I am taking control of this project and making this a priority for February.
Mike is getting the Back Kanji, I am looking into alternate printers.
Help, suggestions and Ideas are requested.
Testing and Promotions:
Chris McBride on his Brown Belt... Great job Chris, good way to start
the year.
Chuck and Kim will be Testing for 10th in January --- good luck!
Takamatsu DVD:
Thanks to John for his gift to the Dojo. When this arrives we may just take
a day and watch the Mongolian Tiger do his thing.
On February 21 (Saturday) Mr. Ed Martin
will be visiting Earthway Dojo for a seminar. Shori Shodans are to attend
that Friday for the opportunity of confirming your rank in Mr. Martin's
presence.
Picked up a Bo / Hanbo from Ed Martin... Very nice, check them out.
Get those January and Feb dues in early. Most of those dues
will be going to Japan for our Bujinkan Membership Fees.
